We build the wheel and the pack ourselves

A wheel that arrives in a box has been laced by a machine that has never met you. We take ours apart and build them again on the stand, with the spokes tensioned to your weight, your luggage and the roads you actually ride — because a 95kg rider loaded with tools puts a rim under a kind of strain a 60kg commuter never will, and a hub motor pushes every bit of its torque through those spokes and nothing else. Packs are the same story. Every pack we sell has been opened, the cells discharged, measured and matched, and the weak ones set aside before it goes back together. It is the slowest thing we do and it is the honest reason our packs are not the cheapest on the shelf. The rest is being straight with people about what a hill costs. A machine built for a flat cycle lane will cook itself holding a gradient at walking pace. One built for Kloof Nek runs a bigger motor, a controller with headroom and a wheel that stays true on the way back down. Ride both up Molteno Road and you will feel the difference inside a kilometre.
