The sorting shed
We started in 2011 by buying the fittings off two demolition jobs in Woodstock and stacking them in a shed we could barely close. The yard on Marine Drive is bigger now, but it works the same way: when a building comes down we go and look at it before the machines do, and we take out by hand whatever is worth keeping — hinges, sash cords, skirting, taps, the lot.
Everything is de-nailed, stripped, measured and photographed in the sorting shed before it goes onto the floor, which is why there is a week between a demolition and a listing. There is one of each thing and when it is gone it is gone, so if you see something here, phone us before you drive out.
