Grit was a shelf of spare bearings in a garage on Kipling Street, sold to whoever came past the driveway we had been skating since primary school. We took the shop on Albert Road in 2019 because the garage ran out of room, not because there was a plan. Every complete that leaves here is built on the bench at the back — Wandile grips and sets up the skateboards, Ruan puts the BMX bikes together and torques them properly. New stock lands on a Thursday and goes on the shelf the same afternoon. If something we built comes loose, bring it in and we will sort it out while you wait.
