Where it comes from

The logs come off farms and municipal fellings between Muldersdrift and Hazyview — kiaat, blackwood, saligna, wild olive and the odd bit of Rhodesian teak. We mill on a bandsaw in the yard, sticker the boards in the shed and then leave them alone for two years. Air-drying is what stops a top cupping in a Highveld winter after you have already screwed it to a base. Eight weeks in the kiln after that settles it at eight to ten percent. If a board is still moving when we meter it, it goes back on the stack and we do not sell it to you.
