Kweek

Everything the bed needs before the plant goes in

Compost, seedlings, drip line and the tools to put them in. Off the yard in Honeydew and on your pavement by Thursday.

We sell soil first and plants second

Kweek started as a compost heap behind a nursery on Beyers Naude and it is still mostly a soil business. The reason is plain enough: on the West Rand you are planting into clay that sets like a paving slab by the end of August and holds water like a bath in January, and no seedling, however good it looked on the shelf, fixes that on its own. So we sell the compost and the bone meal first, the trays and the seed after that, and the drip line to keep the lot alive through a September with no rain in it. Everything on this page is stock standing in the shed on Malibongwe, not a catalogue we order in from someone else when you ask. Tell us the size of the bed and which way it faces and we will work out how many bags it takes, and we will say so when the answer is fewer than you were about to buy.

Feed in March, not in September

By the time a bed looks tired it is too late to do much about it. Bone meal and a bag of compost turned in at the end of summer is what carries a garden through to spring.
