Piet started buying coins over a counter in Sunnyside in 1988, and the shop has moved twice in the years since without ever leaving the suburb. It is two rooms on the first floor now, with a bell at the street door and a balance on the desk. Everything is weighed on that balance, looked at under the same lamp and written up on a card before it goes into a tray. If we are not certain what something is, the card says so in plain words. We do not grade in-house and we do not pretend to. Anything worth slabbing goes out through a submitter in Johannesburg, and their invoice comes back with the coin. Bring whatever you have found in a drawer. There is no charge to look, and we will tell you when something is worth nothing, which is most of the time.
