Patchbay started as two installers with a bakkie and a punch-down tool, finishing the runs other contractors had walked away from halfway. We still terminate rooms ourselves — office floors in Midrand and Centurion, a clinic group, a lot of schools — which is the only reason the shop stocks what it stocks. Everything on these shelves is something we have pulled, punched and tested on a job of our own, and the brands that failed us are not on them. A rack that has been properly combed costs an extra hour on the day and saves an afternoon every time somebody moves a desk, which is the whole argument for doing it once. We hold stock in the Midrand warehouse instead of importing per job, so a panel that goes missing on a Thursday is replaced on Friday morning and not in three weeks.
Every permanent link we install is tested against the Cat6 standard and you get the results as a PDF, port by port, carrying the room’s own labelling rather than ours. If a run fails, we re-terminate both ends before anybody blames the cable, and if it still fails we pull it and run it again — that is included, it is not a second quote. Call-outs go out across Gauteng and we hold the first slot of the morning open for rooms that are down, because a floor with no network is not a booking for next Tuesday. Nine metres into a ceiling void is where a run usually gives up, and there is nothing you can do about that from the patch panel end. Buy the panel from us or buy it somewhere else — the testing and the certification cost the same either way.
