Two sash windows and a balcony door, three different widths and not one of them square. We measured on site, machined three lined pairs in oatmeal linen to a single finished drop, and hung the lot off one brass track running the full wall, so the room reads as one long window instead of three separate holes in it. The brief was light in the morning and none of it after four.
A north-facing kitchen that cooked from eleven until two every day of summer. Curtains over a sink were never going to last a week, so it went in as three basketweave Romans on timber battens, cut to the reveal and stacking clear of the glass when they are up. The heat is off the counter and the mountain is still there.
Nobody buys a curtain off a shelf and gets a drop that lands where it should. We come out with a steel tape, check every window for square, and write the finished sizes down ourselves. Then it is cut, lined, weighted and hand-finished on the two benches in Salt River, which takes about three weeks and takes three weeks for a reason.
