Everything in here is meant to get wet

Coats, boots, umbrellas and hats for a Cape winter — sold on Long Street since 2011 and re-waxed on the same bench they left from.

We would rather re-wax your coat than sell you a new one

Bring anything waxed back in April and it goes on the bench downstairs — stripped, re-proofed and re-stitched where it has gone. R280 for a coat, R160 for a hat, back with you inside the week.

Upstairs on Long Street since 2011

Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm. Saturday, 9am to 2pm. Closed Sundays and every public holiday, because somebody has to be at home when it rains. 187 Long Street, Cape Town, first floor above the framer. Parking on Buiten Street, and the door is open even when the shutter looks half down. We re-wax coats rather than replace them. A coat that has gone matt is not finished, it is thirsty, and forty minutes on the bench with a tin of dressing puts another five winters into it. Nothing here is sold by anyone who has not stood outside in it. If we tell you a shell will not last a day of standing in a south-easter, it is because one of us tried. We keep ribs, runners, tips, buttons and studs for everything we sell, including umbrellas we sold ten years ago. Bring the broken one in — repairs are done here, not sent away.

Enquiries and re-proofing bookings

Tell us what needs doing and roughly how old it is — coat, hat, boots, or an umbrella that has turned itself inside out. Re-proofing is booked in weekly: R280 a coat, R160 a hat, back in a week.
