The rivers we actually fish

From the shop it is forty minutes to the Bushmans, a bit over an hour to the Mkhomazi if the Lotheni road is dry, and a long Friday drive to Rhodes. Those are the waters this place is built around — small, cold, clear and unforgiving of a heavy line. We are on them most weekends between September and May, and we shut on the Thursday before the Rhodes trip every single year. Nothing goes on a shelf here until one of us has fished it for a full season. That rules out a lot of good-looking tackle and it is the reason the range is short. Ask us about a rod we do not stock and we will tell you straight whether it is because it is no good or because we simply have not got to it yet.
