What Tinktuur actually is

Tinktuur is a small hemp press with a shop counter in front of it. The seed comes in by road from three permitted growers in the Eastern Cape, gets cleaned and hulled here, and whatever we do not sell whole goes under the press for oil. The cloth is woven elsewhere — we are not weavers — but it is South African hemp fibre and we know the mill. The CBD side of the counter is the part everybody asks about first. We stock low-dose drops from two licensed local makers, we keep the certificates of analysis in a folder on the counter, and you are welcome to read them before you buy anything. What we will not do is tell you what it will fix. Nobody here is a pharmacist, the law is clear about the claims a shop may make, and we would rather you left with the right thing than with a story.

Where the counter is, and who is behind it

The shop is at 118 Lower Main Road in Observatory, between the bike shop and the laundry, and it is open Tuesday to Saturday from nine until five. Nandi Fourie runs it. She spent eleven years in food manufacturing in Epping before this, which is why the press room has a proper hand-wash basin and a batch book, and why every bottle carries a pressing date rather than a vague best-before. There is no consulting room, no white coats and no wellness talk. You come in, you smell the oil, you taste the tea if the kettle has been on, and you buy something or you do not. Deliveries go out on Wednesdays across the southern suburbs and by courier everywhere else in the country, and if you live close enough to walk it we will simply keep your order behind the counter.

The press runs on Tuesdays and the fresh oil is on the shelf by Thursday

We press to order rather than to stock, so what reaches you is weeks old and not months old. Order by Monday night and your bottle comes off that week’s run.
