Vaan is a counter and two benches on Donkin Street, and it has been rebuilding windpump heads since my father opened it in 1978. There are three of us on the tools. A head comes in off a tower, gets stripped down to the casting, and goes back up with new bearings, new seals and fresh oil in the box. A head we have rebuilt runs about two years before it wants grease and roughly five before anybody needs to open it again, which on a farm an hour from town is the difference between a job and a nuisance. Cylinders we reseat and re-cup while you wait, as long as you get here before eleven. Bring the old part in — we take it in part exchange on the bigger work and it keeps the price honest.
