Fetched this morning, signed for by four

Same-day courier and errand runs across Cape Town on a monthly zone plan. Nine riders, one depot in Salt River, and a collection window you get the night before.

What a rider will carry

Six things. Anything not on this list, phone the depot and ask — the answer is usually yes.

Parcels and boxes

Up to 20 kg, and up to 40 cm on any side so it fits the top box. Bigger than that goes on the trailer bike, which needs a day's notice and does not run on Saturdays.

Same day, both ways

Booked before ten, collected before one, delivered by four. Booked after ten and it goes on tomorrow's rack — we would rather say so than promise an evening drop we cannot make.

Documents and keys

Contracts, ID books, title deeds, spare keys. They travel in a sealed pouch inside the rider's jacket, never the top box, and the seal number is on the message you get at collection.

Bills and queues

Standing in a queue is a run. Municipal accounts, licence discs, a collection slip at the post office. Pay the depot before the rider leaves — nobody on a bike carries your cash.

Standing collections

Same address, same day, every week. The Wednesday script from the pharmacy, the Friday bank drop, the Monday laundry. Set it once and it comes off your ten runs automatically.

Cover on every run

Every run is covered to R7 500 at no extra charge. Above that, say what it is worth when you book and we write it on the sheet. There is no form and no premium.

Where the run actually is

Every rider carries a phone that pings the depot every ninety seconds. When your run is collected you get one message with the rider's name and a live link; when it is handed over you get the photograph. Nothing to install and nothing to log into. If the link stops moving for ten minutes, phone us and we will tell you why.

How a run works

  1. Book it before ten. Phone, WhatsApp, or the form at the bottom of this page. We need the collection address, what is being fetched and where it is going. Nothing else, and no account number.
  2. The rack is loaded at six. Runs are sorted by zone the evening before onto the rack in Salt River, so the first rider is out of the yard before the N2 backs up at Hospital Bend.
  3. The rider collects inside a two-hour window. You get that window the night before, not a vague 'sometime today'. If nobody is home the rider waits ten minutes, phones twice, and comes back at the end of the round.
  4. It is signed for and photographed. The signature and a photograph of the handover reach your phone within a minute of the drop. That is your receipt — we do not post one and we do not charge for it.

Four zones, one price a month

Ten runs a month on every plan. Anything over ten is R65, added at month end. Unused runs do not carry over, which is why most people pick the zone they actually live in.

City Bowl

R349 a month
  • Ten runs a month, R65 each after that
  • Gardens, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek, the CBD, De Waterkant
  • Collection window sent the night before
  • A rider sits on the Bowl all day, so same-hour is often possible

Four people on the round

I run a one-man practice out of a flat. Drawings that used to cost me a morning in the car now leave on the six o'clock rack, and the signature photograph is on my phone before the second coffee.
Riaan · Vredehoek
My mother's repeat script comes from a pharmacy in Wynberg every second Wednesday. Same rider, same time, and she does not have to explain herself to anybody at a counter.
Zanele · Rondebosch
We are ten runs a month almost exactly, which is the whole reason the plan works for a shop this size. The two months we went over it was R65 and nobody made a thing of it.
Farhana · Sea Point
The rider waited at my gate for ten minutes, phoned twice, then came back at half past four the same afternoon. No courier has ever done the second half of that for me.
Duncan · Durbanville

Tomorrow's rack is loaded at six this evening.
