Eight rounds, four circuits, one winter.

Chicane runs eight rounds between May and September, two at each of four circuits: Killarney in Cape Town, Zwartkops outside Pretoria, Aldo Scribante in Gqeberha and Red Star Raceway at Delmas. Every round is a Saturday. Practice and qualifying in the morning, two races in the afternoon, prizegiving before dark. It is clubman racing, so the cars are road saloons and bakkies built to a cost cap. Standard block, standard head, one carburettor or the factory injection, and a claiming rule that lets any finisher buy a rival engine for R35 000 on the spot. Nobody spends their way to the front here, and the field has stayed within four seconds of itself for three seasons. A full season costs about R42 000. That is the MSA licence, eight entries, scrutineering, transponder hire and the medical, and it does not include tyres or getting there. Anyone holding a Class B national licence may enter. If you do not have one yet, phone the race office and they will tell you exactly what it takes.
