Sleeptou Recovery

If it does not move, we move it

Flatbed and wheel-lift recovery across Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni, and anywhere on the N1, N3, N12 and R21. Twenty-four hours, our own drivers, the price agreed before the truck leaves the yard.

Call us out

A callout on the R21 outside Bonaero Park — from the phone ringing to the wheels off the ground. Filmed on a dashcam and left uncut: seven minutes, no commentary.

What we do

Fixed callout fee

You are told the number on the phone before we dispatch. No kilometre arithmetic invented at the roadside once the car is already on the deck.

Twenty-four hours

A person answers at half past two on a Sunday morning. The phone rings in the Isando control room, not in a queue somewhere.

Every day of the year

Christmas, Easter, the December run down the N1, the week everyone forgets. The roster has never had a gap in it.

Insurance-approved

We sit on the panel for six insurers, so the tow goes onto the claim under their reference instead of onto your card.

Flatbed and wheel-lift

Four flatbeds for low cars and bakkies, three wheel-lifts for the tight parking garages, two low-beds for plant and machinery.

Our own drivers

No subcontractors sent in our name. Every driver is on our payroll, PDP in hand, and has done the recovery course before touching a winch.

The first ten minutes

The first thing our controller asks is where you are standing, not what is wrong with the car. Between Buccleuch and Allandale there is no shoulder worth the name, so before anything else you are told to get everyone out on the far side of the barrier and to walk the triangle forty-five metres back, not the ten paces most people manage. The truck is dispatched while you are still on the line, and she stays on the line with you until the beacon is in your mirror. Before the vehicle is winched on, the driver walks it with you and photographs all four corners, the odometer and anything already broken. Those photographs go onto the job card with the time and the GPS point, and they are what stops the argument three weeks later about whether the bumper was cracked before or after. If your insurer is on our panel we open the job under their reference at the roadside, you pay the excess and nothing else, and the car goes to their approved panel-beater rather than to whichever yard is nearest.

Years

The people on the other end

Sipho Radebe
Sipho RadebeDriver, flatbed 3

Fifteen years on the Reef and he still reaches a Buccleuch callout faster than the map says he can. Loads lowered cars without a single scrape on the sill.

Michelle Fourie
Michelle FourieController

The voice you get at two in the morning. She knows which off-ramp you actually mean when you say you are just past the garage, and she does not put anyone on hold.

Andries van Wyk
Andries van WykSenior recovery operator

Runs the accident work and the low-bed. Twenty-two years of rigging, and the one who teaches every new driver strap angles before they are allowed near a scene.

Katlego Mahlangu
Katlego MahlanguDriver, wheel-lift 2
